Design of Gold Processing Plant
Gold processing plants are essential facilities in the mining industry, designed to extract gold from ore through various metallurgical processes. The demand for gold remains strong due to its use in jewelry, electronics, and as a financial hedge. Efficient plant design ensures optimal recovery rates while minimizing environmental impact and operational costs.
Modern gold processing plants integrate advanced technologies such as gravity separation, flotation, cyanidation, and carbon-in-pulp (CIP) or carbon-in-leach (CIL) methods. The choice of process depends on ore characteristics, grade, and economic feasibility.
The first stage involves receiving mined ore and reducing its size through primary, secondary, and tertiary crushing circuits. Jaw crushers, cone crushers, and high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) are commonly used to achieve the desired particle size for further processing.
Crushed ore is ground into fine particles using ball mills or semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mills to liberate gold particles from the host rock. Hydrocyclones or screens classify the slurry for optimal downstream processing efficiency.
High-grade free-milling gold may be recovered using gravity methods such as centrifugal concentrators or shaking tables before chemical processing begins. This reduces reliance on cyanide leaching where applicable.
For refractory ores requiring chemical extraction:
Tailings storage facilities (TSF) safely contain waste materials while detoxification processes neutralize residual cyanide before discharge or recycling water back into operations—modern designs
